The Beacon Newsletter August 2025
We traveled to Norway in June, and toured the beautiful city of Kristiansand. People were everywhere, enjoying the rare warm weather. As we walked toward the park beautiful singing drifted across the way, and we were drawn to it. One of the Gideons in the group recognized the song, “Nothing But the Blood,” a slow melodic rendition, accompanied by piano. We discovered a young lady singing and playing onstage, and we met a church group witnessing and handing out gospel tracts. We had fellowship with them, prayed with them, and I even have a gospel tract in Norwegian.
Music is a powerful gift from God. Martin Luther said, “Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.” That church group in Norway used the gift of music to draw people to the gospel. Our singing and worship can also lead people to the cross.
Patsy and I had fellowship with Christians from all over this planet at the International Gideon Convention. We are grateful to the Harrisons for filling in, and for Diane Malone and Billy Joe Tackett for leading and playing for Sunday worship. We watched online, but it’s not the same as being there. Come and join us each Lord’s Day, “singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord” (Eph 5:18).
He keeps me singing,
