I hope that you had a Merry Christmas! We celebrated with a great day of worship on the 18th with our adult choir leading in the morning and our children’s choir leading in the evening. Along with that we had our candlelight service on the 24th, which is always one of my favorite events. Now that 2023 is over and it’s time for 2024. Every time that calendar flips over to a new year, we all instinctively look ahead to the future. We set goals and resolutions as to what we want to accomplish for these next 12 months. Churches however tend to have a focus on the past. Every church in America is looking back at the “glory days,” which for most churches were in the latter half of the 20th century. In those days churches were full, the nation was prosperous, and times were simple. I know those of you who lived in the good ole days long for them to return, but we must keep our eyes on the horizon. If you are driving a car and you fix your eyes on the rearview mirror and rarely glance through the windshield, then it’s likely you’ll crash. However, if you keep your eyes on the road ahead, look in the mirror every now and again, you’ll remember where you came from, but you’ll also focus on where you are going. Church, I can’t guarantee the return of the glory days of full churches, a prosperous America, and a simpler time. However, I can guarantee that our best days are ahead. Even if that means those best days are in heaven rather than here on Earth. For those that believe in Jesus, the best days are always ahead of us. Let’s have a great 2024!
With Love, Bro. Mark
